No matter how busy or more to the point not busy you are, always look busy. No matter how hard you try someone may catch you unexpectedly. In cases such as this you must always have a backup plan and depending on the type of job you need to be prepared.

This is the most important part of using half your ass. Your job survival often depends on what the boss thinks of you. What do you think looks better from the boss' point of view?

On the lighter side, sometimes you may think you were caught or they have figured out what you have been doing but in reality you are not. There was a time that I was called into the boss’s office expecting the worst. I was sweating thinking they had finally figured out how little I was doing and at that time I had nothing to do for about two weeks. I walked in to the office and the boss actually told me I was doing a great job and that I was under paid and that he had managed to get me a raise. It was about then that I realized I was onto something. I had always been able to make my self look good but never did I think I was this good.
